Stephen Turner MSc MBChB PhD DipMedHyp
Registered medical practitioner & clinical hypnotherapist
Dr. Turner graduated with a first class degree in physics and a Master’s research degree in Astrophysics from the University of Cambridge before entering Edinburgh University Medical School. After graduating in medicine, he obtained a PhD in oncology and spent two years in research in Scotland and California. A developing interest in the role of the mind in the promotion and maintenance of mental and physical wellbeing, coupled with a long-standing practice of Buddhist meditation, led Dr. Turner towards the study of hypnosis and its clinical usefulness. In 2007 he completed the Medical Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy: a detailed course taught by doctors, for doctors, at the London College of Clinical Hypnosis.
In an era in which medicine has become compartmentalised into specialities, and in which the workings of the body have been reduced to purely physical processes, Dr. Turner’s approach aims to integrate orthodox medicine with the therapeutic techniques of medical hypnotherapy to promote an holistic approach to genuine healing. His emphasis is down-to-earth and practical. He has particular interest in using hypnotherapy to assist patients in developing a personal sense of self-control based on improved self-esteem. With this development comes a natural and well-grounded trend towards confidently effecting behavioural changes aimed at promoting personal physical and mental health.
